featuring the sounds of The Guy Barker Orchestra
It’s been over a year since a video of Teddy Mac – The Songaminute Man singing Quando Quando in the car went viral, raising over £150,000 for the Alzheimer’s Society.
You may know the story. As Ted’s illness kicked in, he became more confused often not recognising his family which lead to many aggressive and violent outbursts. As a way of calming him down, his son Simon used to take him out for a drive in the car playing his old backing tracks. Ted was a singer all his life, having worked at Butlin’s and various pubs and clubs around the country, and it was in these moments driving around Blackburn and the Ribble Valley in which he returned to his old self.
Now – thanks to the support of crowdfunders across the world – he’s made his first album**. “The tracks are based on Dad’s backing tracks which provided the soundtrack to my life growing up in Blackburn,” says his son, Simon. They include powerful renditions of the Al Martino classic Here In My Heart and the big band Sinatra style I’ve Got You Under My Skin; melancholic love songs such as How Deep Is The Ocean, All The Way and A Man Without Love; through to the inspirational Quando Quando Quando, Volare and the joyous Nat King Cole number L.O.V.E.
His son Simon added: “Dad would often say ‘Songs are just poems set to music’. So, essentially, this album is about love, which at the end of the day is the only thing that matters.”
Some of the best musicians and audio engineers in the country worked on this project. The super-talented Guy Barker and his world class orchestra provided the sounds while Grammy winning audio engineers Steve Price (credits include albums by John Barry, Ennio Morricone, Adele, Robbie Williams and Sam Smith) and Tim Young – one of the best known audio mastering engineers in Europe (credits include albums from Elton John, The Clash, Queen, Take That, Madonna, Massive Attack and The Killers) - mixed everything together.
Additionally, 25% of any profits will go direct to The Alzheimer’s Society to fund research into Alzheimer’s Disease and dementia to ensure that at some point in the future other families will not have to suffer the effects of this terrible illness.
